Day 22:- Baby it’s cold outside.

Ben went back to work today and I could not have been happier, him being off really messed with my routine with his holidays from work I can plan in advance and send him to the pub to ensure my jobs get done but when he is sick there is no time to plan or no way to get rid of him, maybe I need a sickness plan. I am really starting to enjoy cleaning now, I no longer do it just because it needs doing I now do it because I enjoy doing it. I am finding it rather relaxing and when Ben comes in from work he now always tells me how nice the house looks. It is also a joy not having to wake up to dirty dishes in the sink because I couldn’t be bothered to do them the night before, now I do them and kitchen as soon as I finish my dinner. My bill for cleaning products has also gone down as in the 1950′s they did not have a different liquid or cream for each job now I just use washing up liquid or stardrops for all my jobs its also cleared up some space in the cupboards or a another alternative is to use products you already have to make up your own solution. For example today I cleaned my bathroon tiles and because I always want them to be sparkling I always scrub the grout extra hard but discovered today that if you use a scrubbing brush and shaving foam it does not take as much elbow grease while I was cleaning the bathroom I also decided to try using vinegar to clean the bathtub and toilet all I did was pore some onto a cloth and scrub and it worked a charm, it did leave a awful smell but it was nothing a little bit of hot water couldn’t get rid of. I have to admit that once it worked in the bathroom I went on a vinegar cleaning spree, I empited the last couple of drops out of my flash bottle and filled it with equal measures of vinegar and water and just went nuts I think I sprayed most of my flat down with it luckily the moment just before I sprayed my sofa I managed to control myself as that would have ended badly for sure. But the solution worked wonders on my cooker and made my floors super shiny this is a keeper and much better then all those other sprays I used to use because now I can at least read all the ingredients in it. At the weekend I am going to try cleaning with lemon juice to see if that works just as well.

Once my cleaning was done I took one look out of the window saw there was still snow on the ground then raced to the kitchen to see if we had enough food to survive the evening  as I am a little fed up of being rained on or snowed on while walking round the town centre, luckily we did which left me with a couple of hours to myself, time to myself now is luxury so I put an Elvis record on, made a hot chocolate and settled into my arm chair with my knitting and cross stitch.

My knitting is getting there very slowly, the more I do the less holy its looking and by next winter Ben might actually have a scarf to wear :D

For last Christmas my brother bought me lots of threads for my cross stitching unfortunately last year I wasted my life watching T.V. but not anymore now they are turning into pictures. Cross stitch is by far my favorite craft and it would be lovely to make my own patterns this year.

I am feeling much better today after my week from hell in work I just have to remember to relax and know that at the moment I am doing everything possible to get out of the job and into a better one who knows by the end of the year Ben might want me to became a full time housewife which at the moment I would jump at the chance to be.

Body news:- I know I am always complaining about how hard this project is on my body but a little good news today. My hair is in the best shape its ever been, I have very thick and dry hair but now that I am no longer washing my hair as much (I have gone from 3 or 4 times a week to once) or using straightening irons and lots of extra product my hair it much easier to manage and looks and feels healthier :D I am getting my roots down on Friday so hopefully my hairdresser notices <3

Ben has gone bed early tonight which means I have a couple of extra hours to myself, what a great day.

  1. Fantastic… I’m taking the vinegar tip and using that. I’ve started shopping totally locally and I’ve done my full weekly shop in less than £25. :D

I remember Kim and Aggie going on about lemon juice and it’s brilliance. I also remember them saying bicarbonate of soda gets rid of limescale and gunk around taps.

Keep it up Emily – you’re ace!

    • Thank you Keeley <3 Shopping locally is ace, just that people always say its to dear but its really not and after only 3 weeks my body is feeling the benefit, I have already lost 4kg :D I will have to try bicarbonate of soda too. <3

  2. Lemon juice does not work nearly as well as you think it might. However, if you use the 1/2 vinegar/water mixture and add a little lemon essential oils (probably not 1950′s-friendly…) the place won’t smell vinegary. I also add a couple of drops of washing up liquid to help clean grease too. I’ve used this for years – saved so much money and way fewer chemicals in my house!

  3. If you want a way to freshen cloth items that you can’t wash, mix cheap vodka & water 50/50 is a sprayer bottle & spritz. It’s a recipe that has been used for centuries in theaters for costumes that can’t be washed.
